Frequently asked questions
I work from a dedicated treatment room in my home in Carryduff. This tranquil area gives you the space to relax, free from distractions.
My room is fully accessible and has it's own entrance which is accessed from the back of the house. Toilet facilities are available. There is also ample free on street parking available just outside.
My treatment room is on the ground floor and is accessed by a wide door. There are no steps or stairs to reach my room, there is a small ridge at the bottom of the door to enter the room.
My treatment couch is electric and the height and position can be adjusted to make it comfortable for you as required.
Yes. You can park at the side of the house in front of the gate.
There is also plenty of room to park on the street if you prefer, please just be mindful of traffic and other residents. The road can be quite busy at times, especially during the current roadworks.
No, it is good to arrive on time or a few minutes before your appointment time. Please note that if you do arrive more than 5 minutes early that I may be with another client.
If you do arrive early please wait in your car. You can send me a message that you've arrived, and I'll let you know when you can come into the treatment room.
My advice is to wear something cosy and comfortable.
Reflexology - you will only need to remove your shoes and socks during the session. Most reflexology sessions last an hour, so it's a good idea to wear something comfortable. As you relax you may also feel cold. I will provide blankets, but you may wish to wear something cosy, especially in colder weather.
Facial reflexology - as part of facial reflexology I may massage your shoulders and neck. Therefore it may be easier for you to wear a vest top under your top so that you can just take down the straps, or if you prefer you can remove your top. Either way I will cover you with a towel and a blanket.
Massage - for a full body massage you will be required to remove all clothes expect your underpants. For male clients I request that you wear shorts to your appointment.
If you have booked a back massage and would prefer not to remove your trousers, I suggest you wear loose and comfortable trousers so that I can still access your lower back.
I accept payment by cash or card, including Google or Apple pay or bank transfer.
Yes of course. To cancel or reschedule please get in contact, you can call or message me on 07512878109 or send me an email at tranquillityni@gmail.com.
Please give me as much notice as possible if you know you wont be able to make your appointment. I recommend that you give at least 24 hours notice to avoid any cancellation charges. Cancellation within 24 hours of your appointment will incur 50% cancellation fee.
I understand that sometimes life can happen and that this is not possible, but please try and give as much notice as possible on these occasions.
If you are over 15 minutes late for your appointment, it may not be possible to fit your treatment in. If you are going to be late, if possible please give me a call to let me know.
Booking policies may change based on the selected services. Please contact me for more information when booking multi-service appointments
I do not offer any reflexology treatments in the first trimester of pregnancy.
Reflexology is suitable during the second and third trimester of pregnancy.
I offer Facial reflexology only in the second trimester, as it requires you to lie flat and this can be uncomfortable in the third trimester.
Please let me know when booking if you are pregnant, and how many weeks.
Some conditions including placenta praevia, blood clots, high blood pressure and recent vaginal bleeding mean that you cannot have reflexology. Before booking online please call or message me on 07512878109 to discuss your pregnancy, and how many weeks you are, to ensure that reflexology is suitable.
I do not offer aromatherapy massage during pregnancy.
If you have any concerns about your pregnancy please contact your midwife or doctor. If you are unsure if you can have reflexology please contact you midwife or doctor to discuss before having reflexology.
Generally it should be ok. Both reflexology and aromatherapy massage can be helpful to relax your body and mind during treatment.
I am trained in reflexology and aromatherapy for cancer care, and will adapt the treatment to suit your specific needs including essential oils and balms used, pressure, length of session and areas of the body treated.
You know your body best, so be mindful of where you are in your treatment cycle and choose a time that will be beneficial for you. If you had recently had surgery then please follow the advice of your medical team as to when you can begin to resume activities.
If you are unsure please speak to your oncologist or specialist nurse before booking a treatment.
Please feel free to contact me if you'd like to discuss anything before coming for a reflexology or aromatherapy treatment.
Generally, yes. Reflexology while you are in palliative care will generally be a shorter 30 minute session with gentle pressure. As with anyone having reflexology there are certain conditions such as blood clots which would prevent you having reflexology.
If you are unsure or have any concerns please speak to your doctor or nurse before booking a treatment.
If mobility is an issue I can carry out reflexology in your home if that is easier for you, and if you live near to the Carryduff area.
If you would like to book palliative care reflexology, please get in touch to discuss.
Following any treatment, you may feel or experience that the body is shifting to release and rebalance. If aftercare is followed this should pass relatively quickly.
Some of these may occur:
Feeling tired
Increased pain
Feeling emotional
Needing to go to the toilet
A slight disruption in sleep but most report improved sleep
Feeling cold/ shivers
Underlying conditions rising to the surface
Increased thirst
Slight headache or tummy upset
Cold like symptoms
If you have any queries, please feel free to contact me. As complementary therapies do not replace medical care, if you have any medical concerns, you should seek medical advice.
Following your treatment these few simple steps may help to aid or enhance the benefits;
Rest is important to your body. It not only allows the body time to repair itself, but helps you to recover from the stresses and strains of everyday life - read a book, have a warm bath, meditation, yoga, gentle exercise.
Eat a light, healthy, well balanced diet.
Fluids are an essential part of life. They aid the body in all its primary functions. Try to increase the amount of water that you drink following your treatment as this helps the body to cleanse itself and to detoxify. Aim to reduce caffeine consumption and avoid alcohol consumption for 24 hours.
Listen to what your body is telling you. If you feel tired, rest. If you feel thirsty, drink. It is amazing what you may actually hear.
Exercise tones the muscles and increases circulation and elimination. Five minutes of gentle exercise can be enough to release endorphins into the body. These have been shown to improve mood and to give a general feeling of well-being.
Get some fresh air. However it is best to avoid sunlight if photosensitive oils have been used in your aromatherapy massage.
Extra time. Remember to set aside a little extra time for yourself and allow yourself to relax
You know your body best, and it really is different for everyone.
Roughly I suggest
- Weekly/ every 2 weeks if you have a health concern or issue
- Monthly/ every 6 weeks otherwise
But ultimately it's up to what you want and need, and your budget. Do what feels best for you.
Please be realistic about your expectations. One treatment will be lovely and relaxing, however complementary therapies have a cumulative effect, meaning the benefits increase with more treatments over a period of time.
Complementary therapies are designed to work alongside the medical profession, they do not replace medical advice. They aim to support the body in achieving its own natural state of balance and health. If you have a medical problem or concern, please speak to your GP.
